Getting a chance to go out with Hyacinth was more incredible than I ever could have imaged. It started out as a night on the streets to celebrate Carnival but the next thing I knew I was on a roof top party and I have a vague feeling that things got a little crazy….
The next morning I found myself pool side at a very expensive resort. I thought I was doing ok, that is until the couple at the bar ordered a bit of the ‘hair of the dog’. Even Hyacinth seemed to think that was a bit too much too soon.
I never really believed the fairy tales of the vanilla world. At least I never believed them until I found myself face to face with a vanilla version of myself. For days we had fun, trying to bring her in to the world of berry sweets but after a time she began to get homesick. I figured that if one fairy tale is true then maybe others were too. So we went in search of a the mythical doorway between the worlds. Having seen a movie where it was in a museum of some sorts I thought that would be the best place to start. Lilly was the lookout and it all seemed to be going well, until my sister got…distracted by some of the treasures.
We never did find that magical doorway to the world of vanilla’s. And Lilly tried her best to settle in to our world. Mostly she did ok but as Christmas neared she missed her home more and more. In hopes of helping her forget her sadness I threw a party at our favourite beach hangout. She smiled and tried her best but I could see the sadness behind her eyes. As the night was drawing to a close I saw my first Christmas miracle. My sister, who had never given a gift in her entire life, reached out to Lilly with a present.
"Because no one should be alone at Christmas," she said.
My heart swelled with love of all Berrykind that night, and I knew all would be right for Lilly from now on.
